10 Peacock Chairs That Scream Boho Chic

Last Updated on September 18, 2021 by April

Owning a peacock chair does wonders for tying your boho decor together. Peacock chairs scream exotic, handmade, and personalized. They are particularly great at adding texture to your home due to their woven rattan or wicker material.

Characterized by their wide, round backs and armrests, peacock chairs are often much larger than those occupying the seat. They give off a strong presence without being imposing, thanks to their traditional natural wood tone.

Where are peacock chairs from?

The history of the peacock chair is unknown and debated by many. It is often referred to as the ‘Manila’ or ‘Philippine Chair’, leading many to believe it originated in an Asian country called the Philippines. The designer of the peacock chair is also a mystery.

  1. Peacock chairs were at most $25 in the 1970s and they were ubiquitous, stacks and stacks of them in the World Bazaar, Ginza, hippie shop markets throughout the USA. We all had them.

    • I bought one at an estate sale over 10 years ago for $5.00! We have it on our screened porch, and I love it. I painted it cobalt blue and green. I found another one locally on Facebook Marketplace (locally) for only $75.00. It has a more intricately woven back than the one on the porch.
