This step-by-step owl drawing tutorial will teach you how to draw an easy owl in minimal time. Whether you are a beginner artist who wants to draw little doodles in a bullet journal or a parent who needs a fun kids activity, you can relax and enjoy this quick tutorial.

Before we begin the owl drawing tutorial, please make sure you have some basic drawing supplies. This includes quality drawing pencils, erasers, and a sketching pad. If you have these drawing tools on hand already, then there’s no need to pick up anything new.

How to Draw an Owl

There are so many wonderful ways to color your owl, but we will use a simple brown owl for this tutorial. If you would like to color your own any other color, feel free to do so. The more you get creative with this drawing, the happier you will be!

To follow along with this owl drawing guide, keep an eye out for the blue lines. These lines are for your reference to let your know what you should be drawing in the step. For example, starting in step two, you will see brown and blue lines. The brown lines are what you should have already drawn and the blue line is what you are now working on.

Easy Owl Drawing Step-by-Step Tutorial

Now, let’s begin with our owl drawings. Follow the steps shown below to create an easy owl cartoon. Please enjoy!

Step 1: Draw the Main Body of Your Owl

Drawing the body of your owl will include creating an outline for the top of your owl’s head, two pointed ears, and a round body.

Step 2: Draw the Nose of Your Owl

To create your owl’s nose, draw an upside down rounded triangle shape like the one shown above.

Step 3: Draw the Outline of the Eyes of Your Owl

For the eyes, you will draw two large circles that connect in the middle.

Step 4: Draw the Pupils of Your Owl

Draw two individual circles that are symmetrical to one another. These will be the pupil’s of your owl.

Step 5: Draw the Twinkle in Your Owl’s Eyes

For maximum cuteness, create one large and one smaller circle in each of your owl’s eyes. This will create an adorable twinkle effect later on.

Step 6: Fill in Your Owl’s Eyes (Skip if Coloring in Later)

If you plan on doing a black and white sketch, you can fill in your owl’s eyes at this time. However, if you plan on having colored eyes, you can skip this step.

Step 7: Draw the Wings of Your Owl

Next, you will draw two symmetrical curved lines along the sides of your owl’s body. These will be the wings.

Step 8: Draw Some Feathers on Your Owl’s Body

Everyone loves a fluffy owl! Draw some C-shapes like the ones shown above to give your owl some feathers.

Step 9: Draw Your Owl’s Feet

In this step you will draw two symmetrical feet.

Step 10: Finished! Enjoy Your Cute Owl Drawing.

Step 11: Color in Your Owl With Coloring Pencils (Optional)
