Anyone can become a victim of random breakouts, no matter what skin type you have. In spite of having pretty dry skin and rare breakouts, my skin just went NUTS this past week. I usually just let my skin heal itself and continue to use a light skincare routine, but this time around I had some serious cystic acne going on! So, I turned to an oatmeal sugar scrub.
Hydrating Oatmeal Sugar Scrub
I knew I had to go hardcore, and thankfully I had some manuka essential oil on hand, which I have been hearing amazing things about. The results? My face is actually getting better again in a matter of days! So if you’re looking to try something new for your acne, I highly recommend this recipe below.
The Ingredients
Oatmeal-Great for hydrating dry skin and providing antioxidants.
Manuka Essential Oil– 33x more efficient than tea tree oil for certain types of bacteria. Manuka oil also has anti viral and anti septic properties.
Honey (Vegan honey exists, guys!)-Anti bacterial, hydrating and moisturizing. You can find vegan honey here: Vegan Honey Company
Hemp Seed Oil– Hydrating and regulates sebum production.
Hydrating Oatmeal and Manuka Sugar Scrub
- 1/2 Cup Ground Oatmeal
- 1 Cup Granulated Sugar
- 1/4 Cup Honey (Can be vegan honey.)
- 1/4 Cup Hemp Seed Oil (Or other oil like coconut, or shea nut if you would rather not)
- 3 Drops Manuka Essential Oil
- Combine all ingredients in a bowl and then mix. If you prefer a smoother and more hydrating scrub, slowly add more oil until you reach your desired consistency.

A big thank you to Aura Cacia for sending samples of their ‘Manuka Essential Oil’ and ‘Hemp Seed Skin Care Oil’. : ) As always, all opinions are my own.
