There are some routines in the kitchen you have always thought you just couldn’t get around. From getting loose eggshells out of a bowl to getting that last bit of juice out of your lemons, it seemed for the longest time everyone was just stuck using inferior methods to getting things done. That is, until now. I have just found some of the most amazing kitchen hacks you’ll ever find, and I am super excited to share them with you. Without further ado, let’s get started.
Kitchen Hacks
Lemon Rolling
If you’re like me, you get really bugged by the idea of leaving lemon juice inside the lemon and just throwing it away. Frustration solved!
Fresh Avocados
Avocados are EXPENSIVE and I can’t stand throwing them away after just a couple of days because I didn’t use them in time. Just put them next to an onion in the fridge and your problem has been solved.
Keep Potatoes From Sprouting
If you have ever had a potato sprout on you, you know it’s kind of gross. Just place them in a bowl with some apples to avoid this problem.
Testing Eggs for Freshness
Once in a while you’ll find some eggs in your fridge and wonder how long they have been there. Truth is, it may not matter as long as they pass the float test. Check out My Fearless Kitchen for more information.
Keep Brown Sugar From Clumping
Okay, so the whole brown sugar clumping thing has been a HUGE issue for me for the longest time. I’m seriously glad I’ve found this. Just add some marshmallows and that brown sugar will be as smooth as new!
Room Temperature Butter in 10 Minutes
Melting your butter in the microwave never works out the way you wanted it to. Instead of using the microwave, just place your stick of butter into a heated cup.
Buttermilk Substitute
Take one teaspoon of white vinegar and add it to a cup of milk if you are out of buttermilk.
Preserve Herbs
Herbs go bad quickly, no question about it. If you turn them into cubes in the freezer though, you’ll save a ton of money.
Scooping up Eggshell Accidents
If you’ve ever wondered if some people just leave eggshells in their eggs when in a hurry, you’ve just met someone who does. Yes, it’s shameful but it’s the truth. Don’t worry though, I am a work in progress. From now on I will be scooping those pesky shells out with their original egg shell.
Now that we’ve learned these kitchen hacks, we can save some serious cash. So many times I have lost out on some groceries because I hadn’t finished them in time or I have dropped an eggshell in a bowl and ended up leaving it in out of desperation to finish cooking (yikes)!
